Hindsight is 20/20. He looks like a fairly young deer to me. I don’t know the area you live or how late in the season it was, but if I thought he had a decent chance of getting through the season I would have done the same thing.

How does drought typically affect where the deer will be elevation wise? Does this mean even in the 3rd season the deer are likely to be high assuming there's not a bunch of snow? Sorry for my ignorance, I'm used to hunting badlands/prairie deer so this mountain deer hunting is all new to me.

I thought the northern Gunnison got the worst of the winter in the Basin, yet they are proposing to add 150 tags in 54??

My dad has been talking to the biologist in Gunnison and he said they were actually thinking about increasing the tags in the northern Gunnison units. That was in the middle of winter though, so maybe they changed their mind.
