I want to say it was 1728. The Voyagers and Hudson Bay Company used to trap that area because it was easy access from Lake Superior. There are lots of ancient indian petroglyphs too.
Saw a picture in another thread of a rock face where someone's name was carved with the date of 1925. Wondering what is the oldest date you have found carved on something in nature. (I'm not condoning doing this)
The oldest I've found was in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota. The...
You still have a chance of drawing if you don't buy a preference point? I always thought you had no chance of drawing if you just applied without paying for a preference point.
Around 200". Antlers found in an old barn on some pasture we bought here in Nebraska many years ago. Had them put on a head. Guessing they are from before 1950 but anyone who knew anything about them is long since gone.

Is it possible to obtain both Utah bonus points and preference points in the same year?
I've been building a few bonus points for the limited draw but wondered if I can also build preference points for the general draw at the same time?
I think this chart sums it up. I travel to lots of states and New Mexico is the dumpiest of them all. Everything is run down. Abandoned cars along every highway and poor roads. Drive to states run by the other party and everything is the opposite.
Hunted the Nine Mile unit by Sunnyside this past week and didn't see one deer. Very little sign too. Talked to a bunch of locals that has permits too and they also said deer are non existant.
I was just in that gas station a couple weeks ago on my antelope and wondered the story on that buck too. Send me a PM if there is any more story to it. The woman at the counter didn't know much about it when I asked either.
I shot my NM antelope yesterday and am thinking about going down to a smaller gun. I hit him in the neck and it blew a hole the size of your fist in it. He was a good one too that I was going to get mounted.
Did you see any monster antelope in any of the unit 16 units? I drew the only non resident antelope tag for that unit and will be heading there in two weeks.
I drew the only non resident antelope unit 16 tag which is the second hardest NM unit to get into. While I've hunted antelope a few times here in Nebraska, ours don't have much size so my biggest concern is if I will even be able to recognize what a true big one looks like.
Anyone familiar...
Unit 16 antelope tag- the only one issued for a non resident. Hunt 1-124. Anyone want to tag along who knows where the new world record is in that unit?
I should clarify that we talked to the biologist after we drew the tag so we didn't realize it was such a bad unit until after the fact. Moral of the story is talk to them before you apply and don't believe what you read in hunting magazines.
I'm sure some will disagree with me on my opinion of Wyoming's unit 90 deer unit but some nonresidents may find this beneficial before applying. You have probably heard that it is a 90% success unit with the average hunt lasting around 3 days but this unit is way overrated for 15 points. We...
Just got back from the Maroon Bells. Had deer tags and saw very few deer. Saw some elk though. Talked to lots of people and they all saw very little deer or elk. One guy who had been hunting an area 50 years said they couldn't even find any. People everywhere. Ten years ago this same...
Wondering what cool things everyone has found before while hunting. I'm talking, arrowheads, artifacts, buried treasure, gold, lost rifle, lost grave, etc.
Hunters cover a lot of ground so here has to be some neat old stuff out there.
I'm thinking of buying some lightweight hunting clothes, probably a step below Sitka and Kuiu and wondering how durable they are. Will it hold up walking through oak brush or thick cedar trees? What about crossing a barbed wire fence? I don't want to spend a ton of money just to have it rip...
LAST EDITED ON Dec-21-19 AT 06:41PM (MST)[p]All the locals have known about this stuff for years so it wasn't a surprise when this finally came out. It just didn't come out through the local newspaper as anyone from Broken Bow knows why.
Two years ago we were at 44 and happened to see a forest service worker who rides a horse through that unit all the time. She said that she doesn't know why people even hunt that unit or talk it up so much because the big bucks just aren't there anymore. Between all of the city people wanting...
I just got back from hunting unit 45 around the Jack's Creek area and only saw one 2 point buck all season. Was really disappointed. Neat area, just no deer. Where did you end up getting your bucks at?

Sent me a PM too when you get back. We head down from Nebraska to hunt the first week of November in unit 45.
That's not what I want to hear. Are the forest service roads good enough shape to get an SUV where all the 4 wheelers go so that we can walk from there?
I'm wondering if we should go in on the east side of the mountain range by Rociada???
My brother and I drew a unit 45 3rd season tag in early November. Applied here because Colorado is a zoo. Hopefully New Mexico is better. I've never hunted it either but there has to be more deer here than all the general Colorado units I hunt.
Unless you get to the eastern part of the unit, it will seem like you are always around people because it is a narrow unit and towns and highways are close. Lower is where the bucks will be but there are only a few small public areas north and also east of Basalt. I didn't like hunting there...
Good analysis. I might actually have to take up gambling as that does seems like a better payout.
A friend of mine drew both a random draw sheep and goat Wyoming tag so that is why I started to think harder about what I would do if I actually drew.
Should a person even apply for a Wyoming sheep or goat tag if you are a non resident and don't have $10k to hire a guide to get into the wilderness areas?
I know someone who drew a tag this year and it got me thinking that if I drew a tag and don't have the money for a guide, am I just screwed...
Drew a buddy tag in unit 45 November deer hunt. Never been there so I'm hoping someone here will tell me where all the deer are and all the secret spots. I can hope right?
I need some help understanding the Utah draw because I can't find it on their site and I thought I read that they changed the way the draw works.
#1 It seems like you still have a chance to draw a good unit with very few points but people with many points have more chances in the hat... Is...
Can a person apply in Wyoming by mail to avoid the credit card processing fees? Applying for a bighorn sheep costs $2300+ so the credit card fee (2.5%) is $58. Is this refunded when you don't draw a permit?
I'm having a hard time spending over $200 with the added credit card fee for such a...
