    Got my Grizzly back

Thanks for the comments. Sounds like most of you guys know of Paul and his reputation. It's pretty awesome how he brought this grizz back to life. Pretty cool how taxidermy can bring all of those memories flooding back.

    Got my Grizzly back

    >very cool...looks great....is your wife as >happy as you are?? > > > She's been surprisingly good about it considering the fact that it's taking the place of her kitchen table while I redo some flooring and I might have to get rid of some furniture to make room for him.

    Got my Grizzly back

Had Paul Pennie do the taxidermy. So glad he decided to take on the work. The guy does an amazing job and I couldn't be happier with the finished product. To say that I'm pleased would be a major understatement.

    Pauns Rifle Deer

Was down there two years ago for my wifes hunt and the deer were definitely on the move but they were scattered from the Arizona border all the way up to The Skutum road. Most everybody was hunting low. My observations were similar to what you've already heard; the later in the hunt, the further...

    Best Topo Maps??

Thanks guys. I'll check into some of these. I believe Sportsman's Warehouse sells the Hunt Data maps. I've looked at them and like them other than the fact that their Paunsaugunt map is split in half. East on one side, West on the other. Wouldn't be so bad but most of the stuff I want to...

    Threw a "Hail Mary"....

...during the Utah draw and connected with a Paunsaugunt rifle tag. Plenty of water this spring and a 13 day season should make for a hell of a fun hunt. Hunted it two years ago with my wife and can't wait to get back down there and learn a little more about the unit. Think I'll concentrate a...

    2018 Interior Grizzly Hunt

Hey Scandalous, Just read your PM. I am indeed the one that you met in the airport on May 5th. Pleasant surprise hearing from you and glad to hear about your successful hunt. I'll have to get some info from you on the hunt you were on as I'd like to take my boys up and do something like that...

Thanks for the comments and taking the time to read about the hunt. Don't post often but thought this was worth sharing. Hope the story does the experience justice and was worth the read.

    2018 Interior Grizzly Hunt

Finally made it back.....here we go. Woke up the next morning, had an excellent "backpackers special" breakfast (instant oatmeal and coffee), did a little glassing and then packed up camp and snowshoed about another mile and a half to a better vantage point and set up camp permanantely. Home...

    2018 Interior Grizzly Hunt

With a little persuasion from a great guy from Big Lake AK. I finally talked myself into taking the plunge and heading North in pursuit of a lifelong dream. Flew into Anchorage on May 5th and the outfitter picked me up the next morning. Stopped at Cabela's for License, tag and a few supplies and...

    Pics of 2017 Wasatch Bulls

Hunted it personally in 2013 and with my boy in 2014. Had no problem finding elk then but it doesn't take long with the current tag numbers to change things dramatically. I too am curious to see what this thread turns up.

    Paunsaugunt migration

Headed down in a few weeks for my wifes hunt and will be going down next weekend to see for ourselves but was wondering what everybody has been seeing so far. Kinda thought people would have been chiming in by now but things seem pretty quiet. Also, been looking unsuccsessfully for migration...

    Wasatch Archery Elk Hunters

I wouldn't worry too much about the deer hunters. There are going to be a few around but if you're willing to hit it hard you can get away from them easy enough. We've been up there the last two years on the muzzy elk hunt and had no problem finding our own piece of real estate. You're in for a...

    negative wasatch talk

You're in for a good time. I drew the muzzy tag in 2013 and killed a real good 6x6 that went mid 340's. My boy got lucky and drew the early rifle tag last year and we killed him an awesome 13 year old 5x6 that went mid 340's as well. Plenty of elk and plenty of rut action. We spent quite a bit...

    Tooth data results are in.

Just checked my boys Harvest Survey page. His Wasatch bull from last year ended up being 13 years old. I knew he was old from the worn out ivories but holy hell!

    The boys filled the freezer!

Thanks for the responses guys. It makes the boys feel good knowing that they put the steaks on the dinner plate. Mntman...Those bases on that buck did flare a lot but judging by his teeth, he still had quite a few years left in him. Definitely not past his prime.

    The boys filled the freezer!

After drawing the Wasatch muzzy tag last year I thought we were done with good elk tags for a few years but my oldest boy got lucky and drew the Wasatch early rifle this year with 5 points. We found a great 343 class 5x6 for him and he sealed the deal with a single 436 yard shot. Pretty cool...

    Hardscrabble

The vast majority, if not all of the Hardscrabble unit was recently purchased by two different people and from what I've heard they are going to close it down to the public for a few years and keep it in the family. Sounds like they are trying to give the place a chance to recover from all the...

    Boulder Mountain Bulls

Might have been better off stayin' on the home turf where you know the country a little better. I personally think the Wasatch is still a pretty good hunt. I drew the muzzy tag last year and had a blast. My boy drew the early rifle tag this year and I can't wait for September to get here. Good...

    credit card hits

Don't give up yet. I got two $40.00 hits on Thursday for general deer and have continued to watch balances regularly. Just checked the Cabelas card a few minutes ago and it's $285.00 short of where it was this morning. Looks like one of my boys got lucky.

    Hard to believe

I was watching a group of bucks the first part of last February. Two of the bigger bucks ( one had already shed ) were chasing this doe all over the place. Never did see them mount up but they had the lip curl going on, they were bird dogging her like crazy and about ran the poor girl to death...

    Wasatch bull back from taxidermist.

Just got the results back from the DNR regarding the tooth data from my bull. Turns out he's 8 1/2 yrs.old. That's a little better than the 6 1/2 yr. objective. Kinda cool info to have.

Yes, both the bull and the juniper come off the pedestal. With it breaking down like that, he fits through a three foot door.

    Skull Whitening

A mixture of 130 volume peroxide (35% peroxide) and magnesium carbonate works pretty good. As stated above, it will burn, so be careful.
