never seen stainless pods. stainless is even heavier than mild steel. haven't seen any brushed alluminum ones either. leupold is always a good bet for a scope. get a varixIII.

extend from 9" to 20". I don't know about you , but 20 inches is not tall enough for me in the sitting position. It is good for prone though.
as for optics on your 300 weatherby i would go with a leopold.the new rifleman or vx-1 would be good if money was tight.if monney was in abundance then perhaps a vx-III or something equivalent.
