221-223 early rifle Bull elk

Well after 24 years of points and previously applying w/o getting points I finally have a once in a lifetime bull elk hunt. Not as young as when I started this journey (60 now) and would appreciate any information anyone who has been on this hunt or knows the area can give. This will be a DIY hunt with a friend helping and possibly my daughter.

Is there any packers in the area to help haul out meat? This will determine how far back I can shoot a bull.

Any good places to camp? Hopefully located close to hunting areas.

Is it best to hike in and glasses, or do short hikes from the roads and glass to cover more ground?

Thinking of concentrating on unit #222 in the Mount Graftton area unless I find an area I like better once I get there.

Best of luck to you in your hunt. I personally know nothing at all about the elk hunting in there, but it was one of the units that I applied for every year based only on the hunt stats. ??

I have never been on the elk hunt in there, but I have been on the deer hunt three times and seen plenty of elk. I have also spent countless days wandering the mountains, looking for elk sheds in your unit. I’ll send you a PM with my number if you want to chat.
