Man, this post has taken a serious turn for the worse.
And I have seen how it goes from here. The hunter comes on and explains that he shot the elk at 9 am, looked to be a lung shot and the bull ran down-hill and into the thickest nastiest bunch of oak you have ever seen. They found no blood until they got downhill 100 yards from where the bull was shot. The blood was the size of a softball. Assuming (uh-oh here we go-a hunter who only has one area of blood to go on makes an assumption)the bull kept going down hill the hunter and his brother spent the rest of daylight hours scouring the entire mountain down hill of the blood spot. Not giving up the hunter hiked off the mountain and got 3 more guys to hike in there the next morning. After 5 hours of searching and turning up not even a drop of blood the group of 5 goes back to the spot of blood where one of the group says, "what if the bullet didn't exit and this blood is from the entrance wound on the left side of the bull. What if he got to here and turned around to look up at you guys and after turning around decided to go up hill through this drainage rather than into the oak brush." With that thought the group started searching up hill and an hour later found the bull lodged against a downed log. The meat on the side of the bull that was against the log was spoiled, but the rest was salvageable and the group hiked it off the mountain.
So now comes the part where the guys who never miss and never lose an animal, and take an animal out whole so as not to waste a spec of meat say, "what kind of un-ethical hunter doesnt use a bullet that will leave a hole the size of a watermellon when hunting?" And, "Everybody knows when you shoot and elk in the lungs and it runs down hill for 100 yards it will stop, turn, completely change direction, and go straight uphill before killing over."
To avoid that scrutiny I will tell you what really happened so the perfect hunters feel better about this hunt-even if Stinky's panties are in a wad about the video.
He shot the bull at noon in perfect light. They saw the bullet hit the bull. The bull said "why?" and ran down hill. It left a blood trail 4 feet wide until it jumped off a cliff and plunged into a lake far below. Upon impact the horns were broken to peices which is good becaue we dont hunt for trophies we only hunt for meat. Because the entrance and exit holes were so big the bull filled with water and sunk to the bottom. The hunters hiked off the mountain and came back as quickly as possible (in the middle of the night) with full scuba gear and dove down to the bull. So as not to defile the animal by removing it from its place of rest they cut off all the meat and then hiked off the mountain. Crap-that doesnt work either-only an unethical hunter would shoot an elk so near a cliff that dumps into a lake. Oh well, it was worth a try.
