I just have a question if anyone is willing to help out, it would be much appreciated. A couple of buddies and I got 3rd season Deer tags for units 41,42, and 421, I believe we plan to hunt mostly on 41, and wanted to know from anyone that may have an idea if we would be waisting our time and money buying an Elk tag as well? Thank you for any info. Chad

Snakeoil- there is a lot of elk in these units, just depends on where you are hunting. Get there a couple of days early and see what is around where you are hunting. Where about are you looking to go? I have hunted in this area for some time. Best of luck and hope for a lot of cold weather!

i drew a muzzy deer tag this year for the same units and i had the same question. i decided not to get a elk tag and ended up seeing two bulls during the hunt, but with my luck if i would've got an elk tag i probably wouldn't of seen any elk.

The mesa is sorta hit and miss...but you haven't provided enough info....what are you paying for it? Res or NR, are you planning on hitting another season?

If you are a resident, and are planning on hitting only one season, then it is a no-brainer.

If you are a Non-resident, then it depends on the area and your finances...

But, in general, I'd buy one.

We are all non residents, we plan to come out a couple of days early to try to get a good idea on the deer. A couple of the guys I am going with have hunted units near our units, so they know a little bit more what to expect I guess. All of us hunt hard and are willing to get off the beaten path, that being said, we are deer hunting first, and I personally won't shoot a bull back in and ruin my hunting partners deer hunt unless I am able to shoot a nice bull (not a rag-horn). Just wondered what I can expect to find once I am able to get out there and beat the bush. Thanks again for any info. Chad

You'll be lucky to find very many bulls bigger than a rag horn in most of those units. Occasionally you'll find one. Don't pass on very many bulls here.
