update on elk that fell in water
LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- An elk that was rescued after falling into icy waters near Logan's First Dam is back to his old self.
The elk was exhausted after spending about two hours in the water. Wildlife officials in a boat pulled him out of the water by his antlers. The 800-pound creature didn't even put up a fight as he was loaded into a trailer.
Officials put space heaters and heat lamps in the trailer overnight to try to warm the animal up. In the morning, when they opened the door, he was rearing to go again.
Officials released him in Blacksmith Fork Canyon, where the state runs a winter feeding program for elk.
