Well in order to complete my North American deer slam with a bow, I needed a Sitka Blacktail deer. I decided to hunt Prince of Wales Island on a DIY hunt. I found a bush pilot that was very reasonable and decided to fly to a little un-inhabited part of the island and get dropped at a small lake. I was thinking of which friends may want to join when my wife surprised me and said that she wanted to come. My wife is not much of a hunter but she loves the outdoors and any adventure. I assured her this was going to be a rough and tough backpack hunt and she said she was ready to go. I knew she would do great.
I began planning months ago and packed the bags several weeks before the hunt. We got my inlaws to watch the 4 kids and we were off to Ketchikan. It was a ton of fun and even though we spent much of the time there in the tent avoiding the constant rain, it was a trip that neither of us will ever forget. It is hard to describe the beauty of Alaska and even harder to describe being there in the middle of no where with no sign of people for miles. The nights in the tent were a little scary with lots of black bears and wolves on the island. My wife was way tough and we had lots of fun together despite some bad weather. I cant wait for our next adventure together.
