Kids can't fight things out anymore in school without getting expelled...Kids get bullied and bullied and bullied until they snap...

From what I heard a shotgun was used. If this is true, it provides no ammo for the government and media to use to diasarm the public. As such, you won't hear a peep out of this incident in 48 hours!
It doesn't surprise me, we give lots of kids mind altering meds growing up, we have violent videos for them to play with, we have more poverty, more broken families,and there is less opportunity for more people than ever before.
I remember looking at gun catalogs twenty, thirty, forty years ago and it was shotguns for birds and trap and skeet, big game rifles for hunting, 22s for small game, target rifles for targets and pistols for hunting and personal protection.
Nowdays if you punch up guns for sale on the computer its page after page of manufacturers making nothing but offensive weapons, all of them designed to kill people.
What a strange people we have become.

I must admit that I don't have the answers, kids have been bullying other kids for a long time and seldom did it use to come to someone getting shot. I admit to not even knowing what would drive someone to any of these recent shootings. We seem to have a lot of dysfunctional people in society who don't feel connection to anything, that and mental illness is the problem the solution is much more difficult.
I really don't think D-13er was bullied off this site he was to quick with the one liners to ever get bullied.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-10-13 AT 08:19PM (MST)[p]If the thought of using a gun in a improper manner ever entered my brain, it was instantly washed away, by the overwhelming fear of my father's wrath I knew he would dish out....excessively. I feared this far more than any legal actions.
I don't know why this has become a fad. It is a shame to our society and what it has become. I wished I knew what would stop it. I don't think sensationalizing it is the right thing to do.

I think snort is all over this one. Kids in my day were encouraged by their fathers or older brothers not to take a bully's chit but instead to fight back and he will assuredly cave and stop. Mostly it worked. Sometimes the kid got his azz kicked. With todays PC society it's NEVER Okay to fight even in defense of ones self and school officials will follow kids off campus to quell any little tiff.
Parents don't want their kid suspended from school so they drum it into a kids brain not to get into trouble and walk away.
Also if you spank your child you are abusive and can lose your kids. My argument is if you never spank your kids you lose them anyway. Kids must be made to pay consequences for their actions and responsible for themselves, instead parents blame the teacher for their kids bad grades or their coach for lack of playing time. Disgusts me the way some are (not) raising their kids these days.
Then the blame once again is not the chitbag kid or bad parenting but instead the evil firearm!

I was reading about what some other countries do for gun control and in one country if you own gun you are required to keep your guns in a safe when not in use. I think if we combined keeping guns in safes and reporting all mentally ill people to bureaus that conduct background checks we would have avoided most of these shootings.
To the horror of my daughter I started teaching my grandson to stand up and fight since he was 3 years old and I am sure he will punch a bully in the nose if he needs to. He is a nice kid and not agressive but he knows to stand up. If he gets kicked out of school for a week I can take him hunting or fishing.

I put my kids in the martial arts when they were 5 and they could not quit until they got a black belt including both my daughters. I still spare with my youngest daughter who is a junior in high school. We have a set of rules in my house about getting picked on. If someone is picking on you you tell the kid to stop. If it happens again you tell me and I will tell the school if it happens again my kid will defend themselves. If it happens again my kids have my permission to beat their A$$.

I was suspended from school three times for fighting, win or lose started it or not you got suspended. It had a bad effect on my career I could be a CEO now instead of a teacher. Little schools can still use common sense big schools not so much.

I can remember getting in a fight on the ice skating rink when I was about 10 years old, the kid was much bigger and his dad was there telling him to punch and hit, coaching him on, I bloodied his nose and gave him a whipping, I still remember his dad going over to get him, putting his arm around him and saying, come on son, lets go home.
These are cute stories, but I want to know why people these days are so obsessed with weapons designed to kill people? I have never owned or even shot one, so whats the kick?

I think it's because some people just really like guns and they honestly enjoy the stuff for whatever reason.
I think some people just look for trouble, if these same people would have been around when sawed off shotguns were banned they'd have been pitching the same 2nd amendment crap and threatening to fight to the death.
I think some people are just small pee pee insecure cowards, without their man card guns they feel helpless and weak. a 96 with a 10 round clip and a model 700 with 5 rounds just doesn't give them that movie hero feel they need to face the world.

We never fought at school, we went to the tennis courts off school property, back then the school wouldn't do anything to you. Now if the school finds out about it you still get in trouble.
