antler growth elk in unit 61

I was talking to a guy on Sunday and he said the antlers on the elk in 61 are really nice already this year. Anyone thats been scouting what do you think?

Don't know about 61 but what you see is basically what you get at this point. I found a fresh elk rub on Saturday scouting in a different unit.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Is that kinded early for a rub, or is that common?

That's early.

It is early, most rub around the 1st of august but even if a bull doesn't rub till the 10th of august he is still basically done at this point. They may grow a couple inches on their tops but it won't be long and they will start to harden up then they will be rubbing. They don't grow right up to the day the rub, not sure of the time frame but they stop at a couple weeks before, harden then rub...

Haven't really been looking for elk up there, but the deer are looking nice. Will be heading up again the 18th. If I see anything nice I will let you know.

Sure wish I lived closer,I would love to scout around before I get there. Been on google maps alot and I have had help from you guys but nothing like being there in person.
