Any barbary pics?

I'm sure somebody has to have killed a sheep this season. I don't have a tag this year and I'm sitting at home with a new baby. Lets see some pics!

No pics yet. We didn't see a single barbary. I'm still trying to figure Unit 30 out--it ain't my normal spot. Think I'm going to have to cancel my plans to go to the Expo this week so I can check out some more areas.

Does anyone know anything about possible Tule elk in Unit 30? During my pursuit of barbarys yesterday, I think I may have stumbled across a Tule, I even found a shed. I heard a rumor once about some Tules that escaped from a game ranch down there...

Mozey, unit 30 is eating our lunch also. We are hunting Zachs tag on the weekend.

I cant believe how much time I have spent behind my Binocs on a tripod and have not seen any sheep. Did see some antelope in a place I would not have expected to see antelope.

Thought we were getting into some sign and then glassed up some white woolly ones. :)

There's a herd of elk on the Hughes ranch over the border into texas. Possibly some of them got out?

Man, 30 is frustrating me also! Not many sheep to be found. Hunted hard for a few days and only heard of two sheep being harvested. I never saw a sheep. Lot's of deer and a spanish goat, but no barbary's!
A game warden stopped me and we chatted for a while and he hadn't seen a sheep down yet. He was headed towards the rim so I'm sure there were a few but overall seems to be a tough hunt. And lot's and lot's of hunters.
The two I heard that were harvested came off the rim. It was a small ram and and a ewe, although I didn't see them, just going off the words of another hunter.

Good luck to all. Hope you find the sheep and post pics if you do!

Just got back from unit 30...what a muddy mess! We hunted hard for 3 days and didn't see a single sheep. The only thing I saw was a small buck. This is the first year hunting barbaries and man unit 30 is a different unit! I talked with one guy said he got a small ram. Just an FYI i found interesting...owen prather highway is not a highway its a damn dirt road! I don't know about you guys but when i see a highway on a map it says to me it's a paved road. We ended up not setting up camp till 130am becuase it took us so long to get down that road from the alamogordo side. Best of luck to you guys, i'll be down there again in two weeks

Cant wait to see the success rates on unit 30.

Gonna hit it hard every weekend Zach is out of school.

Seeing some great barbary habitat. Seems if given a chance there could be a good population in that unit.

Nice pics and much congrats, Bruinbrewin. Glad to see someone that's got it figured out.

Thats a nice ram. Always cool to get some pix when you can. I killed a 23" ram off the rim last year and it was tough hunting. Watched that herd get shot at twice and bumped a few other times before we finally bedded them 6 hours later. Definitely a tough hunt. Saw 6 rams in 2 hard days of glassing. My ram looked a lot bigger on the hoof than he did in the dirt. After we got him down and looked closer he didnt have any ears. Looked like they were maybe frostbitten off when he was a lamb. I've seen that in beef cattle up north before. Definitely made him look a lot bigger when he stood up looking at us. Havent hunted barbary anywhere else so I dont have any comparisons to other units tho. Cant wait to go back and hunt again!

Thanks guys, at least now I know there are sheep in that unit somewhere.

Zach said he is shooting the first ram we see. Will leave the trophy hunting for the next guy. At this point he said he would not shoot a ewe.

Congrats on a great sheep!! I'm glad someone found a few to chase. They are cool critters and its great that you were able to snap a few photos! Congrats again!

Here's my ram. There was a bit of groung shrinkage as we walked up on him. These guys are tough to judge.--Kevin

I was beginning to doubt that barbary sheep exist. Then after another long glassing session my partner yelled "big ram" behind his scope. I said "bull$#!* i just scoured that canyon. Sure enough there they were bedded in the sun. After a long stalk, deer busting toward them left and right, a rushed offhand 200 yard shot, a sick hunting partner, 3 more running shots, I finally had my first sheep. As we were beginning to field dress a half hour later after hootin, hollerin, and high 5ing, i look up and there's the other ram bedded 15 yards away! My partner then proceeded to fill his tag. What a day we will never forget.

My ram is on the right. Keep at it guys. We ran into the same things as y'all: mud, snow, hunters, etc.
Glass, Glass, Glass. There might be 1 or 2 sheep left in all of unit 30.

Agree, awesome field photos. I guess that proves there is sheep out there.

That is an awesome picture....congrats!!! That buddy deal is pretty interesting. The pic I posted below is a ram that just lost his bud. He kept coming back to see if he was going to get up and run up the hill to him:(

Much congrats to khart and nightstalker. Those are great pics and nice rams. I especially like nightstalker's story about the ram that held tight just a few yards away while you working on the other ram. That's what BIGBULL48 and I need to happen: shoot a big 'ol ram, and then have him run over to another big 'ol ram... ;-)

Nightstalker,

CONGRATS on the great sheep! Holy smokes!! What a story and great field pics. I'll be out there again this week glassing so hopefully I'll have a pic to two to share.

I had a similar siutation last year as the Ram I harvested waited until I was 12 yds before making his move. We spotted him at about 250 and although he saw us as well, he decided to pose as a rock and not move. Very interesting how they use camo and a rock posture to let us walk right by.

Again congrats and thanks for the pics!

Thanks for the pix guys and congrats to all of you. Nightstalker those are some great looking rams. What was the length on those 2? Seeing sheep like that makes me wish I was there. Getting lots of rain here in southern AZ today. Gonna make it tougher if it gets all the way over to you guys. Good luck.

taxidermist said mine was 28" and my buddies' was 27.5" but his had more mass and a lot more body weight. He also said they shrink in size over the years like an antelope. I really could care less because our expectations were exceeded. We are already planning for next year.

Nightstalker, that is one of the best Barbary sheep field pictures I have seen.

Pretty cool to take 2 quality rams close enough together to get a photo like that.

Did I get that right? A ram was bedded down 15 yards away from you after you killed the other ram??

Hey, Congrats to everyone who's been successful on bagging a sheep so far. Awesome pictures and stories. I have a lot of respect for you guys. Got my first tag this year. Spent the whole first week of the month hunting and never saw one. I guess I wasn't too surprised because I've heard they are tough to hunt and I honestly didn't put too much scouting time in or anthing. I would definately say it's a very challenging hunt and I want to get one now more than ever. Hope to get out again later on this month and hopefully in future years. Congrats again everyone on great trophies!

Thanks
Travis
