Any Information on the Muzzleloader Applegate Unit

Fellow Hunters,

For some reason the "Wall Hanger" trophy blacktail buck has eluded me for the last 10 years. Looking for a nice 110-130 buck to put on the wall.

Anyway a friend of mine told me to start putting in for the muzzleloader hunt in the Applegate Unit. He says it will take 3 years before drawing. He also states this hunt occurs during the "rut".

Does anyone have information on this hunt? Does anyone have pictures of bucks taken from this unit? What about access....public or private land?

I'm not positive on the points, I didn't think it would take that many to draw. The last time I hunted it with a muzzle loader I killed a buck that scored right at 130. The best thing to do is to get good BLM maps and start hunting it during the general rifle season to get to know the area. This year with the later season you can still get a monster blacky. Some of the best areas to hunt are around private property. I killed my buck near Mt. Ashland. I hope this helps. JB
