I used to be. Still have lots of family and friends that are. Many Canadians have been frustrated with the politics in Canada but there are simply more that support the liberal left’s socialistic ideologies. This has been the case for over 50 years and just inches further left every year. The left has more votes than the right, as a result the left has more control over the country. Over the last fifty years, as the left has shifty ever so slowly to the left, it has pulled the right slowly left too.
When all you have ever known is socialistic institutions, even if you are a conservative, those institutions are all you have ever lived under, you too begin believing they are an okay way to live, because that’s all you know. So, many conservative Canadians have never known a life without government medical care or life without a handgun. So, when all they’ve ever known is a life without that freedom they don’t see it as much of a loss when their government outlaws something most have never owned or even cared about already. It’s the same with medical care. When all you’ve ever known is a six month wait for a CAT scan or an MRI you believe that’s normal. Even the conservative Canadians, after 50 years of living like this will most likely say, “it’s okay……..if we are really really sick, we can get services”.
The bottemline is, there are more liberals than there are conservatives and over time the conservatives become less and less conservative in their believes, without recognizing they are doing so. It’s actually so subtle most don’t even reolized it’s happened.
Yes, it’s true the conservatives in Canada are still conservative but not as much as they were 50 years ago. Are the frustrated and even angry at times. Absolutely. Would they vote against the liberals, yes they would but it’s frightening and very alarming when you can see how far, even the conservatives have drifted left.
Unfortunately, I see the same things happening in the US that I have already seen happening in Canada. It takes a tremendous effort not to slowly allow ones self not to become more and more dependent on the governments cookies for seemingly insignificant liberties.
