Area 16 Cow Elk

My 13 year old daughter drew a 16 Cow tag. We are going to be hunting mid-October. I am a very inexperienced elk hunter, so would appreciate any and all advice about where and how to hunt them. Where are the elk are likely to be in terms of elevation and terrain that time of year?

There are elk in the shirley mountains but access is getting tougher. Your best bet is contact some ranch's for access. Later in the season ,your chances are better as the elk move to more accessable ground.We have seen elk in large numbers on public land near Chalk Mountain. Hope this helped a little.
