arizona draw odds question

Ok I know ALOT of you dont have anything better to do than watch the Arizona website and call checking draw status so heres a question for ya to help pass time....lol
Im a non resident who will have 9 points after this draw (im not as optimistic as some of you) my question is if I go to Az in April and get the hunters ed bonus point and next year I go into the draw w/ 10 points are my odds better than others with 10 points or maybe even 11 points since I have the hunters ed bonus point ? Does it give you an extra edge or is it just another point ?

You did not specify which species weapon or hunt you are interested in. For antelope, early rifle elk, and archery elk in ssome top units, I'd say it would not help to have 10BP next year. For most achery bull elk, I'd say yes.

Here is the 2008 Bonus Pass report where for each hunt number you can see how may BP were required to be in teh top 20% group.
The hunt numbers correspond to the 2008 hunt numbers.

Here is the report for the regular part of the draw, again for 2008 hunt numbers.

Looking at these will help pass your time.

Just another point except it's a permanent point. After you finally draw your tag, you keep that point forever for all species too,
And with your loyalty point, 5 years in a row applying, you start with 2 points after drawing. Put in for tags you can draw too. Nothing wrong with a late hunt.
It helps!. Take the course... More points help... 4 tags in 10 years...

Somehow it doesnt make sense to me, did the hunt codes change from last year maybe ?

Well nothing for me again this year. I thought I was going into the draw (archery elk unit 9 and 10) with 11 pts. Only have 10 according to AGFD.

Not sure how this can be - last AZ elk tag was 2000, have applied every year, and have the loyalty and hunter safety pts. With the pt. awarded for this year's draw, that should be 11. Am I not able to count, or what am I missing?

you don't count a point for your application this year, it is not a BONUS point. You do not get a BONUS point until after an unsuccessful draw. Therefore you went into the draw with 10 BONUS points. So when you evaluate odds or hear of someone drawing with so many Bonus points now you know what that means. So if you see someone drew a unit with say 10 bonus points, they had 10 actual points accrued from previous years, plus the draw number for that year, but you don't really take that into account because everyone is in that same boat.

Howdy bubbas,

I see, suspected that was the case. Thanks for the explanation.

Believe NV awards a point upon application, but will have to check that. Not sure if WY and CO are the same.
