Checks are always cashed regardless. AGFD will NEVER return the same check you sent. Instead, they send out their own check so they have an actual record of the refund; thus, when you cash that refund check, it is noted in the department's account. If they simply returned yours, all you would have to do is tear it up and then claim you never received a refund.

And...lastly, the money from everyone's checks goes into an interest-bearing account until the refunds are mailed. So AGFD makes a bit of money off of that even though it's not a bunch in the grand scheme of things buget wise.

I wish they would do it like California system just send in the 7.50 per app for each species you wana hunt. Then if your drawn you send in the amount for the tag. It gets to be a looot of money you send in regardless if you get it back.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-25-10 AT 11:04AM (MST)[p]It was that way for several years when online apps were being used. All that was necessary was an AZ license # or the money to buy one IF drawn. That all changed when AGFD dumped the company used for the online apps because they didn't have a bond big enough to back all the money they collected. So AGFD went back to mail-in only apps.

That said, the game commission has pushed the department to get the online procedure back in place. How that will affect the money that needs to be included up front is unknown right now.
