Az Elk outfitters early rifle.

I have enough resident elk points to draw most of the early rifle elk hunts. I have been waiting a long time to draw so I reached out to four of what I think are some of the best outfitters for AZ. I am interested in range conditions, 2023 success, shot range etc, etc. Because I have waited so long I want to make sure I find the best fit for me and the outfitter. Only one of the outfitters has gotten back to me and a few I reached out to several weeks ago. Two questions: 1) am I reaching out too early and 2) who would you all recommend for an early rifle elk hunt in the top units (1,9,10,23)

I do realize that. I let them know it would be when it’s convenient for them. Two of them told me they would get back to me by weeks end. That’s been several weeks ago.

1) Burnt Timber
9) Mullins Outfitters
10) Mullins Outfitters
23) AZ Ground Pounders

Check out their social media to validate this season’s results.
Yeah go check out all the 320 bulls burnt timber shot on the early rifle hunts this year lol you couldn't pay me to go with those guys. If you have enough points the only answer is unit 23 with az ground pounders. Preferably 23s if you have the points.
Also keep in mind flatlander is the guy that thinks it's ok to hunt elk from upwind so take his advice with a grain of salt.

I’ve worked for several outfitters and if they aren’t calling you back it’s because they don’t want to. They walk around all day with a phone in their pocket, back at camp at night calling home or they are at home running the show. Call Steve Chapplle guide service, Dieringer Outfitters, Burnt Timber. As far as shooting a 320 bull… everyone shows up wanting a 400 inch but after 4or5 days a lot guys lower their standards and a 320 looks damn good to them.

Yes I find it interesting that they can update their social media feeds but not let me know when a good time to call would be?

Correction, you couldn’t be paid to hunt because your license is revoked. How long till that’s up?

Look no further than A3. I trusted my 22 non res points with them. Any unit your interested in they have specialist guides that operate in. Year in year out they are taking the best trophy bulls in the state.

And I would steer clear of SVO. Was not impressed with their attention to detail on a recent Coues hunt.

Tyne Heckethorn with Drop Tyne Outfitters puts as many big animals in the dirt as anyone out there. Good dude and they are straight killers!

Keep reaching out… hard to say what these guys have going on. I’d call and talk to as many as you can and find the one that fits you , not a zone the best.

A bunch of great outfits have been named here and there are more out there.

Everyone outfitter is going to be disliked by someone for some reason.

A-3. I hunted early archery with them this year in Unit 1. This was a absolute great hunt. Passed on 9 bulls with the guide all within 45yds with a few episodes in the 3'-10'ft range. My guide was spot on with the conditions. We also had another hunter in camp with 1 guide, spotter + help. All I can say is these guides all followed the law & were ethical in their approach. The other hunter & I both were holding out for the 360+ which was a tough deal this year but we got close. I ended up shooting the 12 bull within range on a water hole but hit back, backed out & could not turn him up. That's the Breaks. I would not hesitate to use A-3 again if I ever win the tag lotto again!

I was waiting to see if anyone would mention Arizona Custom Hunts. I first met Hunter Weems (owner of AZ Custom Hunts) when he guided for A3. My son had drawn a 5BNorth early muzzleloader tag, so I hired A3 for a scouting package. Hunter Weems did the scouting and showed me around the day before the season, including seeing half a dozen big bulls. We hunted on our own, with the scouting package Hunter had put together for us. My son killed a 361” gross bull on our 2nd day, which a damn good bull for 5BN.

When I eventually draw unit 9, that’s who I’ll be hunting with.

If you are going to hunt unit 23 I would think Preston and Levi Mercer will get you on a .370 plus bull.

Let me guess... you guide for them?
Actually no I don't even guide and I've actually been on this forum for years so not sure why it shows new member(maybe because i never post?). I have known a couple of those guys who work for them and we even hunt the same areas. They have been respectful of me in the field ( can't say the same for other outfitters I've encountered) and haven't known anyone to have a bad experience. Plus I've seen the animals they take and they known what they are doing from what I can see and have heard.

Thanks for for the clarification. If I ever need someone to hold my hand because I am unable to hunt for myself, I will look into them.
