I'm heading back to scout again in about a week for the rifle deer hunt. Been to all the places everyone talks about ( Table mountain, white rock, govt peak, Mt wilson) have been impressed by 3 or 4 bucks but doubt they will still be in the same country by the time the hunt starts. Anyone have any suggestion on out of the way places that don't get much pressure. How about the real low country. Any advice would be helpful.

I'm planning a scouting trip in two weeks , looking for elk in the places you mentioned . I will keep my eyes open for deer .

Been there and done the 231 muzzleloader hunt. Those bucks your seeing during scouting will be there for the rifle hunt. The rifle hunt is so early that they'll likely be in the exact same spot assuming that someone hasn't killed them yet.

I saw a great buck during the muzzleloader hunt that my buddy found within a couple hundred yards of where I last saw him.

Go get them!

Hey, I am headed there next week to scout for muzzeloader. I was sort of curious about the same thing as I might have to head back for rifle also. I lucked out and drew the PIW this year. I am looking for some tips on the out of way areas as well. Never hunted this unit, but am very excited.

I have hunted this area for elk three times with other people, saw alot of good deer everywhere. My son has this rifle deer tag so I ll be in the area, I have seen them high and low, north and south, its a nice all around area. Just be careful north of the eagle valley lake, there is a large area closed to hunting on both sides of the road, so look at a map and use your GPS, I found out the hard way last year, with a Ranger explaining it to me.

Can you point me to any good places for a late cow elk?
I've never hunted this area before, and am really just looking to fill my freezer. So the quickest, easiest to access places are what I'm looking for, if they will yield a kill. If not, I'm willing to go just about anywhere.
TIA
