If you're planning on setting up a stand, you need to be stategic on where you place that stand. I wouldn't feel it's unethical to place a stand on a trail where you know the deer are traveling to get to water, a hay field, a bedding area etc... Even setting up directly over water or the corner of a hay field doesn't seem unethical to me. We all are using some sort of attractant to give us an advantage. Setting up over something that is not natural may also be a question of ethics. I don't seem to see a real problem with using attractants like a salt lick, but I also have never seen a real advantage to it either.
