I'm gonna be in Paonia the first week of sept with my UTV and will have time for some riding up toward Gunnison Mountain for a few days. I havent been up there in nearly 35 yrs and it's kind of a nostalgic area that my dad hunted in the 70's... Is it worth my time to get a leftover bear tag there? Or little chance of seeing a bear? Thanks.

For $100, it’s absolutely worth it. There’s a lot of great Bear habitat in there, and there are a lot of Bears in there. The oaks are super tall, so glassing is challenging, but, I would have a tag and a rifle if I were running around there during that timeframe.

Mount Gunnison? try Raven Mesa and Coal Creek Mesa

Usually has the highest harvest in state. I'll be north of you for bear on Grand Mesa 521 and 42. Good luck.

Minnesota creek is damn good bear country. It’s just very thick.

If I were you I’d get ahold of black bridge orchards. I know they used to let bear hunters access. I’m not sure if they still do.
