We have always hunted the November hunt. Shouldnt be any difference though.
We've done good. The first trip, 2 of us had tags. We killed a 91" and a 89". We did see 2 bucks that would have probably gone over 100", 1 of the 2 for sure. We just couldnt close the deal on either of those bucks. The first trip was only a 3 day hunt and it was the first time we have ever been there.
The second time, 3 of us had tags. We killed a 97", 90", and a mid 80". Again we found 2 bucks that may have gone over 100", but they were in tough thick country. Never could get a shot at them.
I think 100" is a reasonable goal. Just try and get in there a couple days early and start finding glassing spots and locating deer.
We drew the Dec hunt as well. I haven't hunted coues in NM yet, so we are definately excited about this hunt. I'll have to make sure we get there with plenty of time to learn the area and hopefully spot some bucks. So the bucks aren't even thinking about the rut in December? I was thinking they would be at least warming up a little. Talk about burst my balloon!
Maybe we'll run into some of y'all down there. Good luck!
Usually coues bucks will start scraping in mid December, they don't start chasing until late Dec into mid January. If we get early snow, it kick starts the does...
Well, there you go. You cant beat local knowledge. Pray for early snow, even though it doesnt feel like thats even a possibility right now. Come on winter!!!
