I have had some advice about my dilemna from others I trust, but I thought I would ask for more suggestions here. My wife and I both have 10 elk points in Colorado. I am definitely holding out for 76 or 61, I know I will have several more years to wait. My wife however is starting to have a few things flare up like problems with a foot, some joint problems, etc. I know these things occur at any age, but she is 47 and I would like her to go on one elk hunt while she is plenty able to thoroughly enjoy it.
Anyway, I am certain that 76 is a better hunt, but I am also pretty sure that it is also more physically demanding, than 66 - not a major problem, but a consideration, and 76 is still probably 2 to 4 years out, while 66 muzzleloader can be had this fall. I have also been told there are some really great bulls and quality hunting in unit 66, and I feel that muzzleloading season is the best hunt to show her a really good, "classical" elk hunt - barring the fact that she may possibly draw a top notch elk tag in Wyoming or New Mexico in the future. Thanks for any help.
