DEER TAGS QUESTION

HEY GUYS........IF I HUNT THE DESERT BOW MULEY RUT HUNT(OTC) IN JANUARY, CAN I STILL APPLY FOR A DEER TAG THE FOLLOWING OCTOBER UP NORTH. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP (NON RES HERE).............YD.

The answer is YES. However only 1 deer may be harvested per calendar year unless you have a raffle or auction deer tag as those do not count against the yearly bag limit.

You can hunt in January, if you kill one in January you cannot put in for the fall hunt. If you don't get one in January you can put in for the fall draw. Did that answer your question

You can hunt OTC in January. IF you kill a deer in January, you can put in for either a point, or a tag legally. You can legally possess 2 deer tags, but only KILL 1 deer per calendar year. Therefore, IF you kill a deer in January, the best thing to do would be to put in for a point.
IF you do not kill a deer in January on the OTC tag, you can put in for whatever you want, and go ahead and kill a deer at that point.

I've seen a big muley rutting hard as late as the first week of Feb.! This may have been a second, minor rut, but a rut nonetheless. Don't give up if you aren't seeing much action early Jan.

If you plan to hunt deer in january you should put in for archery javelina as well, tags are easy to get then you can hunt both at the same time. Its a fun hunt, but don't expect to see lots of deer those desert bucks are tough suckers.
