Dept Of Defense requires the destruction of Brass

I heard Tom Gresham talking about this on his radio show. Anybody else heard anything on this?

"Obama Administration Stabs Gun Owners in the Back"

We warned you that Barak Obama would publicly deny his radical anti-gun agenda, while engaging in "stealth" attacks on private gun ownership. The most recent example is a directive from the Department of Defense that will severely aggravate the current ammunition shortage.

For those who either don't own guns (or have been living in a cave) supplies of ammunition are getting alarmingly low. Many retailers report shelves virtually empty of popular pistol and rifle ammo.

Most ammunition manufacturers depend on reclaiming used brass cartridge cases from the military, that are then recycled to make new ammunition. It is a system that has benefited both the military and the private sector, not to mention saving the taxpayer's money.

So it is beyond comprehension at a time of serious ammunition shortages, as well as budget shortfalls, that ammunition manufacturers would receive a letter stating the following:

"Effective immediately DOD Surplus, LLC, will be implementing new requirements for mutilation of fired shell casings. The new DRMS requirement calls for DOD Surplus personnel to witness the mutilation of the property and sign the Certificate of Destruction.

Mutilation of the property can be done at the DRMO, if permitted by the Government, or it may be mutilated at a site chosen by the buyer. Mutilation means that the property will be destroyed to the extent prevents its reuse or reconstruction. DOD Surplus personnel will determine when property has been sufficiently mutilated to meet the requirements of the Government."

Now, one has to be curious about WHO suddenly decided to mandate a new policy that makes a bad situation worse, has no benefit to the military, and will result in an increase in costs to the American taxpayer, precisely when the government is running a gigantic deficit.

But of course we know the real reason behind such actions - after losing a number of elections both locally and nationally, the anti-gun radicals have learned that the way to succeed is to avoid highly public confrontations like wholesale gun bans.

Instead they have adopted "incrementalism" - under-the-radar campaigns that slowly rob legitimate gun owners of their ability to exercise their rights. They know that they don't need to take your guns away if they can simply make it more and more complex, expensive, and difficult to own and use your guns.

So, obviously, something like an ammo shortage is a dream come true for the gun haters. Why bother with their guns when simply denying them ammunition makes their firearms useless?

One wonders when those gun owners who were stupid enough to vote for Obama (and his like minded Democrats in the Congress) will finally stop denying the obvious

How would you resize a 223 to 300 RUM or a 50 BMG to 22 hornet? don't you think most reclaimed brass is melted down and started over with anyway?

most manufacturers like Rem, Federal and WW claim they use virgin brass with thier alloy , I'm not sure if that's true but if it is they're not effected by this anyway.

In any case, this isn't going to halt ammo production.

No but it will be harder($) to feed my AR :(

No dude, it will not stop private companies from making ammo. What it will do is stop the Gov. from receiving funds for that .223, 308, 9mm, 45acp brass they were selling to small ammo makers. That is considered bad business on money earned. Us poor peon tax payers will just take up the difference, no big thing in our present economy.
It will drive the prices up to us for purchasing ammo where we could have bought ammo that used once fired brass,
I am sure you have heard of "Black Hills" ammo. They got started by selling very accurate .223 ammo that used those once fired military cases. I wonder how those employees will feel about this "not effecting" them and possibly their jobs.

Good news on this issue. It seems that the Dept. Of Defense has reversed itself on the distruction of military small arms brass cases.

There was pressure bought by the NRA, sporting groups over this issue. Gary Marbut who is the president of the Montana shooting sports carried the ball with his two Dem. Senators Tester and Baucus and they bought it to the attention of the DOD that there was strong opposition to this decision of destroying the small arms brass that is used by many sportsmen.

Gary Marbut just received a message form Sen. Tester that the DOD has reversed it's decision and will not require the brass to be made unusable before selling it to vendors.

I just wish that our CA. Senators were as pro gun as these two Montana Senators. I would have no problem voting for them if they are as good on other items as they are on this.

amazing, why are the jackasses even screwing with these things? like there's nothing better to do. WORTHLESS, and thanks to the worthless people who get to vote.

This is an example of a shooting industry on it's toes....keeping an eye on things attempted under the radar....YES I believe it came from an antigun administration...
