My wife and I both drew tags. We would like to find a spot away from crowds that holds elk. We have no issues hiking way back in somewhere or packing out elk. We here there are a lot of atv trails in these units, but we don't have an atv, so may be at a disadvantage. We are hoping our willingness to hike will make up for that.

Anybody familiar with this area? I'm willing to trade info on other units.

061,071 is not a get away from the crowds type place. If the elk get pressured, they go to the reservation or Idaho. There are very few, if any places that more than 1 mile from a road.
Best to use the pressure to your advantage and catch the elk going into little holes to avoid the pressure, at least the ones that don't go straight to the border. And there will be some company for you guys as well.

In looking at maps of the area I can see some spots with decent space between roads, but I can't see if there are atv trails heading up the ridges.

Lots if elk off Merrit mnt, easy IMO country to hunt. Also look west of Jarbige city near the Id border.

Thanks, as long as there are plenty of elk I'm sure we can deal with the crowds. Any other suggestions for areas to scout?

North of copper mountain is good, it funnels down into the brunea river. The farther north you go the easier the terrain.

Fox Creek Peak is in unit 072, not part of your hunt unit. You need to be west of the main road there.
