Well, reading these responses are quite interesting. Without wasting the time to reply to some of the lamer responses, I will say that first of all, I never stated that it was the best nor the easiest hunt in the country. Yet, it is a very good place to get started with an over the counter tag. Second, A LOT of guys go past our camp on their way in to hunt elk and they all admire the elk hanging on the meat pole when they come out, yet they never figured out where we hunt (90% of the game is taken by 10% of the hunters). I can't tell you how many guys from Idaho Falls roll into Pine Creek on opening day and charge up every hill looking for an "easy" elk. Then get into the truck and head to the next canyon. How many elk did they charge past in doing so? Just because someone has been there that doesn't mean that they have "hunted" it. Also, If this area "sucks" as everyone seems to think, then why does it matter if I tell others about our personal success? Maybe, the best point of this post for a new guy to learn is the need to look beyond what everyone else says is bad. The reality is that most game is taken by going where others don't go or by doing what other's don't do. This may be going ten miles from a road or 1/10 a mile from the road. All I know is that if I had to get an elk, hunting as we hunt it, this is where I would go. Yes, a lot of people will read this, just as they do all the where-to-go articles in Outdoor Life. Some will go here and see nothing and say it stinks. But, someone might actually go there and see a bull, even if they don't kill it and get hooked and become a hunter for life (which is something we need more of). The reality is that most of you choose to horde what little knowledge you have, I choose to share regardless of what anyone thinks. And yes, many times I have taken a new hunter into one of my spots to teach them how to do it (I did so on three of my hunts last year). I also, have spots that I will never share and will take to my grave. It is because so many people already know about and hunt this area that I would share it. Perhaps, some of them might appreciate finding out what they have been doing wrong all of these years. Lastly, it might be worthwhile for those who replied to this to read what they wrote and think about the message their responses say about themselves. No one on this site is the "World's Greatest Hunter" (regardless of what they think)and everyone of us could stand to get a little better, if it was only in the area of promoting our sport. No matter how many animals one has taken or how big they are, there is someone out there who has done better.
