LAST EDITED ON Aug-06-11 AT 07:17AM (MST)[p]Just found the Africa part of this forum, figured I would throw my hunt in there....
I traveled to East London in 2010 to hunt with Kei River Safaris with the assistance of Cross Hair Consulting...
First animal, first evening... good bushbuck
200 yards on the dot, DRT Kimber 300 wsm 168 TTSX
Next day... Andrew and I came across this one horn impala... A quick phone call was made, and the green light was given for immediate extermation... One shot, and a quick 50 yards dash and he was down:
later in the day, on the same ranch we were glassing shady spots when this guy was spotted infront of the truck. He gave me a steep angle sahot at 80 yards and I was lucky enough to put the shot where it needed to be and he fell DRT.
The next day we were up and off early in search of a black wildebeest and hartebeest..
We played cat and mouse with a bachelor heard of 8 bulls until we ended up on the correct side of a natural dam and the 126 yard shot was correctly executed. Andrew was very particular with the shots he would let me take, and after shooting this dude I knew why. I managed a double lung shot while taking out the plumbing above the heard and this bull still made it 100 yards!
Later in the day we found a single red hartebeest... Old, gray big bastid.. He was awesome... While going after him, we stumbled into the heard and a mature bull was picked out and the shot executed.
The next day, we were again off on a several hour drive to a ranch that held East Cape Kudu.
We looked all day, found several nice bulls but nothing we wanted to shoot. The day was very windy and we managed to find a bull that we were back and forth on, beded at about 125 yards... We elected to pass and i was glad we did.
We moved into the hills, spotted another decent bull bedded within range. I was getting frustrated and running out of patience and almost shot this bull... Not an hour later a no-brianer stepped out and we made our stalk. 353 yards and one shot later and the magnificent bull was mine!
And he looks great on the wall:
The next day we stumbled into one of the many troops of baboons there... One shot at 370 yards anchored this big male! (hes the one with out the hat)
That evenuing we went back to a mountaind reedbok that had given us the slip. I was set up on a nice rock shooting uphill. At 250 yards the little antelope took the bullet through the heart and still managed to run 100 yards!
The last animal on the contract as a black springbok. We had gone after them once before, not seeing a shootbale male. One phone call was made, and we were off to another ranch. The tracker, Sutu made a drive and the heard popped up in an unexpected area. I had to turn 90* to maek the shot.
My 257 wby also made the trip and I wanted to harvest an animal with it... The last day, we went out looking for something... We found a OLD babboon out by himself. One shot at 350 yards and he was ours!
