Here is the Eberlestock "Just One" hunt backpack in action. This is Thomas Brunson, Timberline Outfitters in McGill, Nevada. He is packing out Larry Berg's(my brother-in-law) 366 bull on November 8, 2004. Thomas estimated the first pack out to be around 140lbs. Thomas really wanted a Just One after borrowing mine and received a pack as part of his tip.

The Just One weighs 6.25 lbs, converts from 2000ci day pack into a 4100ci freighter. It has pockets for your spotting scope, tripod, huge water bladder, extra gear and is waterproof. The bonus is the pack has a built-in patented gun scabbard that holds your long rifle which is easily drawn without removing the pack. This is the best built, engineered and designed hunt pack on the market and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Haven't had a chance to use mine yet, but based on what I've seen it is the best pack out there right now, I wouldn't doubt what huntsonara said. I sold my Crooked Horn pack to get it and have no regrets, even though I liked my CH pack.

Do it! That pack is the only thing I'm really asking for this year for Christmas. I've got people giving me gift card to my local Sportsman's Warehouse to offset the cost of buying it myself. It's only $199 but I'll take all the help I can get. I've been looking around for a good pack upgrade and was blown away when I found this. Imagine my surprise when it unzipped in the back and expanded from 2100 cubic inches to a whopping 4100 or so cubic inches. The scabbard is ruggedly constructed and can be tucked up inside out of the way if you aren't using it. That scabbard is also a great place to put shooting sticks so you don't have to take time unfolding them from a hip pocket in a rush.

I don't have mine purchased yet but I had to weigh in here. I was suprised to see a posting about this pack. It is something I'm really excited about right now.

Sounds familiar BB. I have requested gift certificates from Cabelas this year so I can purchase the Just One. My hunting buddy has one and I am impressed.

If I could suggest one thing to the manufacturer it would be in regards to the back/exterior panel. It is made of mesh. Looks rugged and allows you to see everything you put in the big/expandable compartment, but I intend to use a lightweight nylon bag to put everything in because I worry the mesh will wear out or tear before the rest of the pack. Aside from that, it should be the last day/field pack I ever buy. I have smaller day packs and a full-on frame pack but I was missing that 'in-betweener' pack. Have a great day.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-14-04 AT 11:17AM (MST)[p]BuckBunger,

No worries, Eberlestock makes a Spike Camp Duffel that slides into the main compartment for $20, or a Zip-In Front Panel that fits over the front mesh panel for $12. The Zip-In Panel is reversible with gray on one side and blaze orange on the other.

Okay, now I am absoluteley sold on the Just One pack AND this message board. I never would have guessed I'd have such an indepth conversation with people about a pack. I did find the reversible zip-in liner at the website. Thanks bigbull1

Got mine today and told the wife I better not wait till Christmas to open it up in case something was wrong with it and it needed to be sent back :) (she bought that story).

I was impressed with the quality of the materials and the incredible amount of thought put into the entire pack system. I put a bunch of gear and a rifle in it then put it on to see how well I could reach the rifle while on my back. You have to do a little reaching but it was pretty easy to take the rifle in and out. I can't wait to get out and do some hiking with it.

They sell a Holiday set that includes the Just One pack, zip in front panel, spike camp duffel, and the rain cover for $227.

Can you still sling a rifle over your shoulder while wearing this pack, or does the pack get in the way.
If anyone can let me know that would be great!!!

I believe the pack has a scabbord for the rifle. I understand it lets the rifle point towards the ground. I'm sure someone who has one will chime to better explain.

RE: Eberlestock Just one hunting pack ?

TriggerMag,

The Eberlestock "Just One" has a patented Quickdraw Backscabbard which is the only stapless backpack mounted system for carrying a long gun and can be drawn while wearing the pack. Handy for hands free climbing, etc.

But the pack has a narrow profile that allows wearing a slinged rifle on your shoulder as well. Often I have drawn my rifle from the Backscabbard when approaching game or a good area and put it on my shoulder with no problems.

RE: Eberlestock Just one hunting pack ?

Bigbull 1,

Thanx for the info, ya I was mainly wondering if you could still sling a rifle with the pack on instead of using the backscabbard,or would your rifle rub up against the pack.
I would be planning to carry my rifle slung over my shoulder pretty much all day long unless I shot something then I would put the rifle in the Backscabbard.
Does your rifle stay put on your shoulder while you are wearing the pack?
Or does it feel like it wants to fall off your shoulder?

I like the Kifaru packs myself. I suggest you check them out if you haven't already. www.kifaru.net
