Had several cows "bark" snot on me. Several bulls within touching distance (and still no shot) One brushed my clients bow when he spooked and knocked arrow of rest.
I have only ever had one bull )out of several hundred within 25 yards), that was gonna "git me". He was a very agressive herd bull I had hunted for weeks, King of the Mtn, if you will. One morning I just let him talk and snuck within about 50 yards before I cut loose with my "horny satalite bull" immitation. He closed the distance to about 12 yards within seconds. Thrashing a pine but facing me, so no shot. He started to get a little nervous when he didnt see another elk after a minute or so. When he turned to take his cows away, i made a couple grunts with my voice and drew, stepping out from behind a large juniper for a clear shot. I was thinking he would freeze in mid turn, offering me a nice broadside or quartering away. Instead he saw my movements and spun back twords me, head down and cocked, stiff legged and closing the distance fast. I was at full draw but had no shot (facing, antlers, head) I yelled when he was just about to make contact (few feet), stepping back as I yelled he spun and hightailed it, never stopping to offer me my shot. I wear tan when I call, its suprising the amount of movement you can get away with, in this case though it worked a little too good.
Shot an old Black Bear Boar (21 yrs old) with my bow one time at point blank on the ground in the head. (This was within a few seconds after my first shot at 15 yards connected, it was a good one) Dont think he was out to get me, I think I was just on his escape route and he wasnt sure where the first shot came from. Still have the skull, with the split where that zwicky tried to penetrate. Must admit I got the shakes for a while after that little episode!
