My youngest son is a Hot Shot fire fighter for the BLM and is fighting an active fire in the mountains NW of Cody Wyoming right now. Yesterday, my oldest son text'd me and is fighting a big wildland fire in Namibia, just outside Windhoek about an hour.
It was about 5000 acres when they got on it, and had raced thru 2 farms with 30 mph winds pushing it. 14 hours later, it had grown to 25000 acres, and it was just too dangerous to fight in the dark and the rocky canyons. He's driving a Uni-Mog with a big tanker. Ultimate 4WD.
Said he had to dodge a leopard and a hyena at 10 feet so far, and got burned over once. No damage or injury.
Call me a bad husband. No, I have not been keeping the mother up to date on these issues!!!!!!!!!!!!!
