Well, here we go. Figure I might as well share a cool experience with the Woman.
Court has never really shot a bow, nor hunted for that matter. Even growing up in a bowhunter family with some of the infamous archers in Utah. She told me that she would shoot a bow if it was PINK. Yeah...PINK
So, calling her bluff, I got a Hoyt Kobalt done in PINK Predator camo, got her all rigged up, and showed her how to shoot the bow. Months of practice, and here we go!!
Opening weekend, we found two great 4-points, sat and watched them, one pushing 29", never had an opportunity. I told Court she had first shots. We had various 3-points, 2-point at 20-30 yards from her, and boy did I ever see buck fever first hand! This girl can shoot 4"groups at 50 yards all day, but 3 bucks within 30 got the best of her!
One jumped her string, and shot right over the back, one good buck just got lucky and "psyched" her out, and make her jumpy, shot at her feet, and one buck just got too smart.
None the less, Court felt the adrenaline, and the joy of being so up-close and personal to the hunt!
Next day, we hunted our @$$es off, and was on our way back to camp, spotted a spike 40-yards from us, got down, and put a stock on him, got 27 yards to him, Court drew back, took a deep breath, and made an amazing shot through the trees! It was awesome! We saw the buck run down hill with the arrow almost completely out the other side, knew he was done. Went back for food, came back to find him dead under a tree not 75 yards from all the action!
The experience, and joy of her spike was way more enjoyable, and rewarding than any other hunting/fishing experience I have ever had. Even got the girl in waders and a Fly Pole! How lucky am I!?!?
Needless to say, I told her just to harvest her first year, and keep on improving through the years. Always learn and progress....Little did I know I would have to prove the the next day!!
On our way to the spot we had been seing the big bucks, We spotted a 3x4 with an inside kicker feedind with a few does...better than last years buck. So I told her I would show her shot placement.
40-yards, thing jumped my string, shot low. As I was looking for my arrow, I noticed the deer on the top now, looking around at what had happened. I immediatly got down, crawled for what seemed like forever! got 67 yards from them, got behind a bush, ranged the bucks antlers, 67 Yards...Moved my sight to 67, drew back still crouched, and kneeled up, they where all looking right at me, head on. My heart stopped, put the pin right indside his shoulder, where his heart was, let it fly,,,,POW!! Loud thump, right where my pin was, and they al took off, but the buck was stumblin, went 30-40 yards, did the death dance, and rolled right there!
The new Mathews DXT (switch from the usual Hoyt) with 410 Gr. Gold Tip 7595 Pro with 100Gr Spitfire tore that heart in half, and allowed me 2 great hunting adventures in 2 days!
Girl got her first buck, and I improved on last year, and got to watch my buck take its last breath.
What an awesome year! Cant wait til next!! Only 339 Days to go!!
Good luck to all that are out and about!
