I am hunting sheep soon with an opportunity on a grizzly (trophy fee for the bear). I am shooting a 300 Wby mag with 180gr. ballastic tips for the sheep. Is the 180 adequate for the bear too? some say yes, some say no. Or would you go to a 200 or 220 gr. for the bear.??? Looking for some true advice from those who have taken a Grizz., I haven't............yet. but that'll change soon.

Your .300 mag is fine! However I definatley would use Nosler partitions in either 180 or 200 gr.
I shot my 10ft plus Boone&Crocket Brownie with a .300 WBY with 200gr Nosler Partitions and he was pretty much done for after the first shot, but an excited bear can be extremley tough to stop! the balistic tips dont hold together well enough to penetrate the heavy bones of BIG bears, dont use them if you hunt Grizz!
I took an interior Grizzly with a .338 win mag with 250gr. Grand Slams,IF I recall he took 3 shots
The .300s are great all around guns!I wouldn' hesitate to hunt Grizz with one!
I took my .300WBY even though I own a .375H&H mag!
Let us know how you do!
