There is one thing for sure about the size of this buck, I am glad I am not hiring one of you to guide me and say he is a 180 or 220 NT....LOL
I guess I have let you guys hang your self enough and might as well end the guessing game.
BomberBlackie....it was killed by a Barber and did hang in his shop for a long time till the new owner said to get it out of there...turned the shop into a golf, basketball, baseball theme instead of hunting while getting a hair cut, the shop was in your folks home town.
OK, this buck was shot in 1973 late Oct out west of Big Piney, WY and yes it was before Longuns moving there...sorry Mike.
The buck was mounted back then and was NEVER scored by anyone till his son and son-in-law took the Buck mount to Ukiah, CA to the B&C scorer and got it done and was scored at 252-2/8" as a final net score "then". Now fast forward to the early 2000's when David Long had his website Magnum Mulies and some of us here on MM use to go there too. I posted a picture of the buck and David contacted me by email and wanted to know more about it. That fall when we went to Big Piney to go hunting, I along with the owners S.I.L. went to David Longs house to show him the pictures and story about it from 1973 hunt. He told us that BUCK should be entered into B&C as it will go ALL-TIME Record Book.
So with Jack and I encouraging Herm to submit the forms etc. It took some doing but finally got it done and then B&C contacted the owner to allow the mount to be picked up and brought out to Kansas City for the 25th Awards. When it was there the Officals of B&C did another Panel Score on the buck and after doing so, this buck was re-entered with a "new" score of 259-5/8" which was 7-3/8's" MORE than the B&C scorer had it at only 5-6 years earlier....WOW'
So it was #23 in the 25th B&C Awards and 3rd best in class at that showing. The owner and his wife along with another couple were there for the Awards and probably a highlight in his hunting to be honored like that when he never even thought much about scores until that moment.
If it had not been for David Long telling me to get the owner to enter this buck it would still be unknown to most outside his barber shop clientel.
In the B&C All-Time Record Book it is tied with a few others at #197.
The scorer who first scored it is no longer on the B&C list of OM...time to retire I guess.
If any of you have one of the B&C record books, it is in the 25th Big Game Awards 2001-2003 and also B&C Records Of N.A. Big Game...12th Edition 2005
