LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-17 AT 08:13PM (MST)[p]Posting with days still left on my scheduled hunt can only mean one thing
I finished my full curl/grand slam on the 6th day of my Stone sheep hunt. He's an old black ram much like Zeke's, which is exactly what I was hoping for. He's not a great ram as far as horn length, etc, but his cape is as dark as they come and he's mine.
The best part of any hunting adventure for me is my son Spence was able to be by my side the whole way. Spence was with me when I shot my first ram (a Wyoming Rocky) on his 18th birthday. He has since been able to accompany me on all of my sheep hunts.
We found my Stone on a little grass bench, tucked in rugged goat cliffs. Crappy weather had kept us out of ram country much of the time, so I actually only hunted sheep for two days. While we saw lots of rams, mine was the first for sure legal ram we saw. I was hoping to hunt longer, but we could count 10 stacked up age rings, so we went for him.
We had to scale the cliffs to get a good shot but I was so pumped I didn't even notice the danger involved. The shot was on a very steep angle, but I was 100% confident of the outcome. I was shooting a little 6.5 Creedmore that Zeke helped put together for me and the old ram never knew what hit him, as he lay in his bed.
Because we finished early Spence was able to goat hunt and he took a 10 5/8" long record book billy in one day of hunting. That was awesome icing on a tasty adventure cake.
That part of BC is an incredible place with beautiful scenery and lots of animals. I'm a techno idiot and Spence has all the pictures, so it could take some time before I can post them up, but I will eventually do so. We need a while to decompress and get back to reality.
I wish all of you could have come along. It was indeed an amazing adventure.
Thanks for all of your support and well wishes.
