Apologizing for the slight hijacking of the thread, but when I was a kid of about 5-6 years old, we were driving through the mountains of Colorado (no idea where) and drove past a saw mill (presumably). There were seemingly hundreds or thousands of felled trees/logs stacked up all over the lot. I asked my dad what was going on there and he quickly explained, "that is the toothpick factory, they are making tooth picks out of all those trees..." Mind you, I was 5-6 years old at the time. I spent the rest of the trip tying to imagine how many tooth picks those trees would make and why on earth we would ever need so many! Ever since, many times when I see or hear of a toothpick, I think of that memory and wonder if the toothpick I just picked up was the last toothpick from the stacks of logs in that yard...
I probably didn't complain about anything the rest of the trip, I was too busy trying to imagine the stacks of toothpicks those piles would make, lol.
