well today i spent about 2 hours at the range. it is my last time to shoot befroe i make the journey off to college! anyways, i had been shooting the remington accutips and was gettin decent gropus, anywhere from 1"-2" inches. i had some 165 sierra boat tails that my grandpa and i hand loaded so i decided to give them a shot to see what they could do, with the range master spotting me, i first did a three shot group less than 1/2" with all the bullet holes touching eachother! then i did another group that was about 3/4" and missed touching by half a bullet width. it goes with out saying that i will be with grandpa and be hand loading more of the 165 and will be shooting them this year. the only thing i am worried about is how much difference in trajectory there will be. atleast i know the 165's will put the deer down where it stands! it if is hit in a good place

Casey,
If you know the ballistic coefficent and the muzzle velocity, you can get your trajactory from here http://www.eskimo.com/~jbm/ballistics/pbrange/pbrange.html

I use the point blank range calculation to eliminate range estimation out to about 300 yards. In laymans terms, it means that anywhere between the muzzle and your maximum point blank range. (In my case it is 300 yards) you can put a round into a 6 inch circle.
With this calculator you can change the size of the circle. I like the 6 inch circle because the bullet will be no highter than 3 inches nor no lower than 3 inches from the muzzle to your maximum boint blank range.
The calculator will also tell you where to zero your rifle. I just sight it in where the 100 yard mark says to (+2.75")
Makes it easy hunting. Just point and shoot. No guess work.
There other ballistic calculators on the home page.
