LAST EDITED ON Aug-10-14 AT 08:05PM (MST)[p]Received the rifle back in June, slapped on the Zeiss with rapid Z 600 via Talley lightweights...total weight 7 lbs 1 oz
The gun handles and shoots like a dream, its pretty close to everything I've always wanted a muzzle loader to be. After messing around with a bunch of different loads, settled on a 300 gr. Parker Ballistic Extreme over 110 gr. of Blackhorn 209. Accuracy is very impressive, and recoil turned out to be pretty mild considering the relatively heavy load out of such a light rig...the stock design/construction with the decelerator on the butt make it pretty much a non issue
Anyway, took her out for a real field test yesterday on my MZ antelope tag, and she performed flawlessly
Killed him from 278 yards when he stood up out of his midday bed after a a sweet crawl across the malpais, cactus and chamisa, with only one rude interruption by a high country rattler that really could have nailed me if he'd been a bit more of a jerk in disposition...I was watching the buck as I crawled and almost put my hand on him when he gave a brief buzz and scared the crap outta me for a second
The people at Knight and Talley are a pleasure to do business with, and the wizard Bob Parker makes some wicked, high BC MZ bullets. He is also one of the nicest and most genuine persons anyone could ever hope to deal with
Cheers,
Adam
