land question

I elk hunted in the Uncompahgre National Forest and there was private land among the public. We were told by some of the people hunting around us that said you could hunt the private land, because there was an agreement with someone. I have been trying to find out if this is true, with no success. I was wondering if anyone here would know who to talk to find the truth. Thanks for reading.

NO! Colorado landowners are not required to post their property and it is the hunters responibility to know where he is. They will trespass you!!! Someone fed you a line on that deal. Hunt the public and sit back and laugh when those other guys get ticketed... or worse. Just about everything over an acre is leased in 61 and 62, so stick to the green on the map, avoid the white, and you should be ok.

Talk to the landowner. There are some people that will just let people hunt and not post anything but ask first. If you cant figure out who owns it contact the local DOW officer. Chances are he's had contact with the owner and knows who you can get in touch with.
