Lying in wait without a treestand

I have found a super good wallow where elk come into a lot, but I don’t have a tree stand or a blind. What is the best way to stay hidden while waiting for elk to come in, yet be flexible enough to get a bow ready for a shot?

Use what’s available, even if it just breaks up your outline a little. Get the wind right. Sit still.

Sticks and branches will make a blind stuck in the dirt. A stump log will make ya a seat.
Having the wind right is the big thing you need to get right.
Hope you stick a good one.

I build brush blinds all the time. Its difficult to conceal movement with just the vegetation. I carry some burlap and put it around the blind in a way that the shadow of the blind material is cast on the burlap. I've had hunters and guides walk right by me without being seen.

I can attest that blinds are less successful than tree stands, due to scent. And sitting in anything can be boring as all get out, so make it as comfy as possible!
