As you can see in the pics the tag looks to be very old.

I was thinking the 59 was the year. AAA no clue and the 7001 no clue

Thanks Joe

Alaska uses metal bands too. However since 2008 (my first trip) they have been green. No idea if they have always been green in AK.

Alaska metal tags are required for non resident hunters. Mine have always been yellow when hunting Prince of Wales. Maybe color indicates region?? It does not indicate species because yellow tags were used for both bears and deer.

Those don't look like Shiras moose antlers to me. So maybe Alaskan. I'm not sure though.

I called (had to leave a message) Alaska Game & Fish when I bought the antlers several years ago
Never heard back from them. I would really like to know the history of those. The person I bought them from said he purchase them years ago but had no history

Thanks for all your help

Mine were green back in 1995 for caribou and moose...

Utah used metal tags when I was a kid, but they were plain metal, not painted, and there was no moose hunt in Utah back then.

Hi magpie, thanks so much for the info. I'll contact AG&F and see if they have any history of the animal.

Sorry for the late reply.
