Moose Rut...?!?

Both.

My wife's tag in the Bighorns started Oct 1st and the moose were rutting pretty good at that time. until an early snow storm hit then it seemed like it ended over night.

I actually didn't see where the rut effected the bulls much except they were with the cows. calling was pretty ineffective.

Not worried so much about calling, I just want them on their feet and moving...

I'd worry about calling.
Without it I wouldn't have arrowed my B&C P&Y bull last year.
I've hunted 3 different units in Wyoming, over a half dozen times, and I've seen what the others have seen. The Bulls are moving, but maybe not in the open, by the end on September and pretty heavy into the rut the first week of October.
Where ya huntin'?
Good luck Ike!

Hunted Area 5 in 2013. Saw some mild rutting activity in late September. Killed my bull on October 3rd...but still don't believe the rut was anywhere near "peak" yet. Thinking I was done about a week early?

LAST EDITED ON Aug-24-15 AT 02:26PM (MST)[p]Ike,
I went back and re-read my old PM's and noticed that we've talked before.
Good luck on your hunts. It going to be something special!

I also would recommend calling. When I had my moose tag in '05, I called in a bull the first time I ever tried calling! He came on a string up a steep grade right to me. At 30 yards I finally stood up to stop him from running me over! We had a staredown for the next ten minutes. He finally left. Had he been a couple years older, he may have gotten an arrow that day.

Sure seems like a decoy would work; they work on everything else. The combination of calling and decoying could be deadly.
