I read somewhere that a Utard made the summit this year.

When you get to the top you still need a little luck to get back down.

I've read a few books. I think that window has closed for me.
 
The utard made the summit alright but didn't make it down. RIP.

There's another utard beside him going for the summit. Some skier girl, except she was planning on skiing down. I haven't heard any info on how that's playing out.
 
I ll stick closer to home. 60 # up a mountain (5 days of gear and food) and about 100# down (one deboned deer and cape, antlers) from about 11k feet is about all i can muster, but it keeps me satisfied!
 
I fully understand that nobody gets out of this world alive but climbing that mountain is nowhere near my bucket list.
 
I've always had a romantic lust to travel to places like this and would still do it (this is probably where Zac got it from)....but I just have zero desire to climb to the tip-top and have even less desire to die trying.

That mountain is literally littered with bodies of those who THOUGHT they would make it (up AND down).

After losing my son on a mountain, I have even more respect (shear terror) for those lofty peaks.

With that said, if it's not hunting, it's way down on my list.

It's a sad deal that he died, but he died doing what he loved to do. Much better than dying at 55 of a heart attack in front of a video game after spending a life avoiding danger.

Apparently the word on Utah skier girl is her group is going to try and summit via the less traveled north route. Probably a wise choice.

Good point you know I thought about that after I posted my comment.
 
Sad deal but they know the potential cost. I've read Bear Grills book, also Into Thin Air by Krakauer, and The Climb by Boukreev. You can't spend any extra time in the death zone. It must be surreal atop that mountain. I get the sickness at 11000' and it isn't much fun. 10500 is cool but at 11000' it is nausea, vertigo and headache.
Sherpas or not that is one amazing deal as the Sherpa can't stave off altitude sickness for you.
It is fascinating reading about their adventure.
 
I see the talk is of a lottery system to relieve the congestion. I don't know where it stands now, but not too long ago the number of grand slams and everest summits were about the same. The sheep hunters might regain the lead when only 70 year olds have enough points to draw everest.

My wife always says I'd walk 20 miles to catch a trout, but I won't exercise with her for 15 minutes. She's right. :D
 
^^yea in the news the family of the Utah guy who died are saying he died of a heart attack. Whatever, if that makes them feel better so be it.

In other news word on the street is Utah skier girl made the summit and is still alive. No word if she's still going to ski down.
 
Doubt it changes till a dozen of em die in an episode due to the congestion.

If you hire the right outfitter and pay him enough, he'll hire the Sherpas to tie a rope to you and pull you to the top. A lady did that. They babysat her to the top and back.
