Mt. Dutton Early Rifle Elk

I will probably never have this tag again so hoping to get some ideas on where to start and what to expect. I'm 44 and can hike as far as needed. I'll have most of September available to scout.

I had this tag last year you will have a great hunt. Last year water was the key down in the canyon bottoms roadless area. Have a plan for the pack out it's rough country. I have the number to a guy with mules if you need it.

This is the best advice you'll get. Not many roads on that unit, some help with the pack out will allow you to chase bulls that can be glassed up from a long way off.

Hunted there with my dad 2018 or so on the archery tag, he didn’t harvest but we seen some good bulls. He was 70 years old then. Shoot me a pm if you want.

That's a good unit if you don't have horses and a great unit if you have horses. Nasty freaking rock pile. Big bulls. They should be huge this year. Have fun.
