Here is a picture of my buddy with the other bull I mentioned earlier he was a heavy non-typical 6x5. This was where we base camped, I took this picture the day before we packed up and boated out.
another picture taken from base camp, this was one of the many fishing jet boats we saw go blazing by us, one of the charters lost a salmon right in front of our camp, same type boat that packed us in and out, they are about 30 feet long and can hold alot of gear and animals, thank god for that!
this was our second to the last trip to spike camp to pack the 5x5 quarters down to base camp, the next day we went up again to break down spike camp and bring it down the mountain.
I just had to stop and take this picture, mostly to give my aching knees a rest,I had about 90 pounds on my back, but I thought it would make a great picture too, if you look close you can see the blue tarp we had over our base camp way down yonder next to the river in the center of the picture.
The muley I killed was standing just to the right of the taller of the two burnt trees that are just left and a little down from the center of the picture, does this country look like it holds game or what? it was unreal I tell ya, looking at the pictures makes me want to hop on a plane and go back, well on second thought maybe not this time of the year, this spot is probably knee deep with snow right now, if it's 35 here in central Florida this evening, can you imagine how cold it is out there right now?
This is all 5 animals back at base camp the night before we left, notice something hanging down from that elk hindquarter? made me feel quite inferior, LOL you have to leave it attached whenever you quarter game like we did, that was the first thing the game wardens asked to see, because they thought they were going to nail us on it, he said alot of guys who drop camp like we did don't take the time, they just hack it off, and they bust them for it, you have to have identification of sex. They about $hit themselves when they saw how much meat we had.
This was the last picture I took while we were waiting for the boat to take us back out, it was raining, so we had to use the tarp to keep our gear dry, we crammed all the meat into 2 huge coolers and 3 smaller ones. I still don't know how we didn't sink the boat on the way out, LOL. Well that's enough pictures, I hope you enjoyed them.
Thanks again for sharing the pics.
Now that's a meat pole/rope. Following all the little rules like leaving evidence of sex makes everyone?s life easier. The warden might have seemed a little strict about the evidence of sex and everything because there were some other guys that floated the salmon river this year that wasted a bunch of meat because they were too lazy to pack it out and take proper care of what meat they did pack out.
Thanks Brian, yea, they told us about that, what a waste of some good eating meat, we didn't mind them being strict at all, they're just doing their jobs, I would of been disappointed if they didn't want to see their tallywhackers after we did the work to leave them attached to the hindquarters.
Great pictures. I spent some time in that country and it is awesome. Nice to hear a story about non-residents doing it right for a change. Spike camp, lots of sore muscles, following all the rules. Sounds like you all really earned all that meat. Nice job!
Thanks guys, originally they charged us 500 dollars, but then later a few months before the trip, they sent us a bill for 86 more dollars, saying the extra money was for taxes, which we thought was a bunch of baloney, they knew what they needed at the time we sent them the 500 dollars, but of course we paid it anyway, what were we to do? they had us by the balls, I would of been pissed to have them not be there or be there on time for 86 dollars.
