hey guys this is gonna be our first posting on here. this was me and my wife and 3 month old daughter's first hunt together as a family. and it turned out great. i know my brother-in-law already posted some pictures but here they are again.
this was actually my wife's second deer. she killed a nice four point a couple years ago. nowhere near this nice though. this was my second time on the hunt and my first time gutting and caping one. i would say i did pretty good for only seeing it done once the year before. a+ taxidermy gave me an unnofficial score of 207 and 3/8. 26 1/2 inside spread. 34 1/2 outside if you use the cheaters.the eyegaurds/browtines are our favorite part. we couldnt have gotten luckier with this hunt. my job did a 50 percent layoff a couple months ago. i made the cut but i definately couldnt ask for any time off for scouting. we managed to scout one weekend and decided that was the place to go without even seeing anything. finally the hunt opened. we were only able to hunt two weekends out of the 15 days it was open. the first weekend we had a babysitter. we saw one exceptional buck with a couple of good ones but they dissapeared over a ridgeline. we hiked for a couple of hours but couldnt find them. so we moved on. the next weekend no babysitter. this is our first child so we were kind of nervous about taking her on long hikes in the cold. it was only about 15 to 20 degrees in the morning. so we did a lot of driving. the first day we saw about 16 does in the morning no bucks and nothing else the rest of the day and night. that night my wife was about to make the decision to not hunt the last day. i set my alarm anyway. when it went off she had no choice but was happy she decided to go. we headed off to our spot and hit this great little burn just before the sun was gonna peak over the mountain. my wife yells "DEER" !!! so to not spook them i kept going past these two knolls. we stopped i grabbed baby and she grabbed the 270. we hiked back over the knolls and there he was with about 9 does. as my wife set up for the shot he creeped over to the other side of the hill he was feeding on. i thought for sure he smelled us and was gonna take off. we sat there for a couple minutes motionless and this guy came right back over, turned broadside and my wife smoked him. he jumped like 5 feet in the air hit the ground, ran about 15 to 20 feet and he was done. we congratulated each other for about 20 minutes and then went to check him out. we couldnt believe how knarly he actually was. my wife took our daughter back to the warmth of the truck and i continued to gut him and drag him back to the truck. all in all we had a great time,my wife is a great shot, our daughter is a natural born hunter, and i cant stop thinkin about when i am going to draw.
