I was just up payson canyon two days ago and everything looks very green still. If I had a tag, I would concentrate on the back side of loafer mtn, on the loafer mtn trail, I have seen decent bulls there. Or, as you are driving up payson canyon and you look to the west, you can see the back side of dry mtn. It is the big long ridge that runs north to south west of pete winward and maple lakes. That looks primo, easy to glass too. My buddy drew the rifle tag a few years ago and saw his biggest bulls there. I hope this helps, tell your buddy good luck. The downfall to hunting this unit IMO is all the scrub oak. It is soo thick right now that you couldn't see an elk if it was 20 yds off the road.
