Do the Sandhills of Nebraska have big mules? What is considered a better than average buck?
I hope to draw a non resident tag.

On average, it is quantity over quality. There's not a ton of places for a big old muley to hide and get any age on them. If you can get access to a big private ranch you'd have a much better chance at an older age class buck. But even then, with a mid-Nov rifle season, the bucks are pretty vulnerable to straying and getting whacked as a 1.5-2.5 year old.

tkj...give me a PM and I can give you some info. There are some really good but not monster muleys in the sandhills. I hunted there for 5 years on a private ranch.

Unless you have private access or get dumb lucky don't hold your breath for a giant. Theres good bucks though.

NE is such a **** show, that Nebraskans with options don't even hunt there.

Unless something has changed this year you don’t have to draw a tag for the sandhill region in Nebraska

Have hunted in western Nebraska the last 10 years. Only private. Lot of young bucks because of rifle season during rut but there are a few big ones around. Lot of road hunters during rifle. Best to go during archery some time.

I would definitely go the private route. To put it in perspective, I live in Omaha and drive many miles past the Sandhills. It is cool country though.
