Got a rifle deer tag for unit 5a/5b, and first time hunting that area, scouted a little and couldn't find anything. If you have any tips for the area and don't mind sharing please tell. This is my first deer hunt and would like to get something. Any help will be much appreciated.

Early mornings and late evenings hit the push downs and burn areas just north of the mesa. I used to hunt the area frequently for elk and I would usually see deer. I would never see too many but once in a while a nice one would show himself. This is the northern section of 5BN. You've got your work cut out for you to try to bag a buck in the area. Just being honest. Good luck and have fun.

I hunted elk in there and did see some deer. My advice would be to hunt the flats or go off of FSR 126. It is the road off of the Twin Arrows exit on I-40. I cut fire wood in there in the falt before the fire went through and I found some monsterous sheds in there. I have also seen some big bucks in there too. Hope this helps.
