Has anybody else been seeing the huge groups of Mt. Goats between Ogden and Weber Canyon? There are a ton of them in there now. There was a group of 29 in Hidden Valley a few weeks ago. There are several on the North side of Weber canyon and a bunch everywhere in between. There has got to be a good 100+ goats in there.

Does anybody know of any plans for a new unit in this area? Willard peak does not cover this area. There are some huge billys hanging out up there.

Just curious if they are planning on openining up this area sometime soon.

Theres been a herd around strawberry for about 5 years. Look around the front and back of the (sisters). On the east side you have the CWMU.

LAST EDITED ON May-29-13 AT 02:35PM (MST)[p]I saw a band of about 10 goats on the north side of Taylor Canyon two weeks ago. I was up Taylor again on Saturday and Hidden Valley on Monday and couldn't locate them again. I wouldn't be surprised to see a hunt up there in the next 5 years. Maybe they could include from the North Ogden divide to Weber canyon. I know that there's a band near Lewis Peak.

I have always been curious about goats in that area, I am glad to hear they are moving into suitable habitat. Has anyone heard of any sightings to the north in the Wellsvill mountains or the Bear River range around Naomi? Seems like great habitat as well.

They have been crossing Weber canyon for years now. I'm surprised I haven't seen any white marshmallows splatted on the freeway yet.

From what I know, the DWR needs to have confirmed sightings of animals in new locations before they will admit to a population is established. Like the original Lone Peak herd back in the 60's, they couldn't confirm sightings for years even though hikers were apparently seeing them and then boom, they confirmed the herd in the late 70's to be about 60-70 animals strong and a hunt was established starting in 1981. I guess if you are seeing them, report them to the DWR exactly where they are so they can locate and track them to estimate an actual herd....

I hike alot up at Snow Basin resort and there are quite a few Mnt. Goats up there as well.

We try to do the Beus trail from the Ogden side up and over to Snowbasin once a month in the summer and we see Mnt. Goats most every trip.

I see the most of them right above St. Joeseph high school in Ogden. The North side of Taylor Canyon up in what's called "Hidden Valley". I think they winter up there as I usually don't see them until Decemebr-April.

The problem with Hidden Valley is there is no water there in the summer. Back in the late 1980's and early 1990's I would see goats around Mt. Ogden Peak. They have been there for 20+ years.
